Today would have been your 59th birthday. As I began to think about your extraordinary life, I thought about what my life would be like if you had never been born. Other than family, no one else has ever held the place that you do in my heart. I love you so much and I am proud to be your fan.
Though you were never one to toot your own horn, I am sure that many have to come to recognize, now more than ever, what a great and precious gift your presence has meant to this dark world. You have touched the lives of millions people and influenced many generations around the world for decades. I truly believe that you were sent to this world for a divine purpose.
“My dear mother instilled in me very young to give back, and as I grew in God I knew what I had to do as a believer in Christ. I hate to see suffering, I hate to see people in need, and I feel God gave me a gift, and I have to use it responsibly by giving back, and I’ll do it until I have pennies left or the good Lord …calls me home.”…
“I believe in the Bible and I try to follow the Bible. I know I’m an imperfect person, I’m not making myself out to be an angel. Because I’m not an angel and I’m not a devil either. I try to be the best I can and I try to do what I think is right. It’s that simple.”
Because of your impact and influence on the world, I think of your birthday not only as a day of appreciation, but also a day of self-reflection. You have blessed and influenced a lot of people, not only through your music, but by your example of hard work and dedication. You rose from poverty to heights that no other entertainer has ever seen. Even your idols were amazed and awestruck at the level your talent, genius and creativity.
“I try to write, put it in song. Put it in dance. Put it in my art to teach the world. If politicians can’t do it, I want to do it. We have to do it. Artists, put it in paintings. Poets, put it in poems, novels. That’s what we have to do. And I think it’s so important to save the world.” – Michael Jackson
“A perfectionist has to take his time……he shapes and molds and sculpts that thing until it’s perfect. He can’t let it go before he’s satisfied; he can’t.”
“It [my music] breaks all barriers. I don’t have to make a political statement. I do all of that with music.”
You were a walking illustration of genuine compassion, empathy and real love. It has always amazed me that a person of your stature had such depth of humility, kindness and warmth. It’s one of the zillion things that I love about you the most. You were never phony and always wore your heart on your sleeve. You gave abundantly, unselfishly and quietly. Some will never know that they were helped by your generosity and caring because that’s the way that you wanted it.
“To give someone a piece of your heart, is worth more than all the wealth in the world.”
“Wherever you go – in every country,or in every continent, people yearn and hunger for only one thing, to love and be loved. Love transcends international boundaries and heals the wounds of hatred, racial, prejudice, bigotry and ignorance. It is the ultimate truth at the heart of all creation.”
Your words and deeds are forever inspiring. Whenever I need to push myself or need encouragement, I always think of you….
“Please go for your dreams. Whatever your ideals, you can become whatever you want to become.”
“Others can’t overcome fear for you; you have to do it on your own. It’s hard, because fear and doubt hold on tight. We are afraid of being rejected, of being hurt once more. So we keep a safe distance. We think separating ourselves from others will protect us, but that doesn’t work, either. It leaves us feeling alone and unloved. Trusting yourself begins by recognizing that it’s okay to be afraid. Having fear is not the problem, because everyone feels anxious and insecure sometimes. The problem is not being honest enough to admit your fear. Whenever I accept my own doubt and insecurity, I’m more open to other people. The deeper I go into myself, the stronger I become, because I realize that my real self is much bigger than any fear. In accepting yourself completely, trust becomes complete. There is no longer any separation between people, because there is no longer any separation inside. In the space where fear used to live, love is allowed to grow.”
You taught us to stay positive and focused, but most importantly to work and fight against injustice and poverty. You showed us that the power of change lies within us. We are all responsible for helping our fellow man.
“Soul is the most precious thing you can share, because you’re sharing yourself, and the world needs that gift more now than ever. The child with AIDS in the ghetto is waiting for you, along with the starving people of Africa, and everyone else who needs healing. Make the world more beautiful by sharing with me the wonderful feeling you get when your soul is lifted up to become pure love.”
“Today of all days, we focus on loving one another and giving. Let’s do that not just one day of the year, but for 365 days. Let’s love one another. Let’s forget hatred and turn to those that are suffering; not just today, but every day. Join me in healing the world and making it a better place.”
You were not afraid to take risks. You experienced a lot of heartache, but you never stopped helping those in need. You kept your dignity in the midst of persecution. Many have wondered why you kept helping people, even at the risk of hurting yourself.
“In a world filled with hate, we must still dare to hope. In a world filled with anger, we must still dare to comfort. In a world filled with despair, we must still dare to dream. And in a world filled with distrust, we must still dare to believe.”
“But I will never stop helping and loving people the way Jesus said to.”
“To give someone a piece of your heart, is worth more than all the wealth in the world.”
“I am sensitive to other people’s feelings and emotions…and I am very thankful. I don’t know if I could have done what I have done without the help of other people on the way, really. Even those who don’t know how much they helped me, I thanked them later. Even those who do things from a distance and don’t know that it is affecting me from another place.
“Like the old Indian proverb says, do not judge a man until you have walked two moons in his moccasins. Most people don’t know me , that is why they write such things in which most is not true. I cry very, very often because it hurts and I worry about the children. All my children all over the world. I live for them. If a man could say nothing against a character what he can prove, his story could not be written. Animals strike not from malice, but because they want to live, it is the same with those who want to criticize, they desire our blood, not our pain. But still I must achieve. I must seek Truth in all things. I must endure for the power I was sent forth , for the world, for the children. But have mercy , for I’ve been bleeding a long time now.”
“………they have really betrayed and deceived me in so many different ways and at so many different times. I have had adults with tears coming down their face, saying “Ít’s a shame what you have been through and I would never ever ever ever hurt you or do anything.” And they turn around and they hurt me. Honestly, that´s the kind of crap I’ve been through… tears rolling down and hugging me. And they end up a year later suing me over something ridiculous… like a photographer over some pictures, or some person who get terminated and I didn’t terminate them, but I get sued by them, but I didn’t do it. This is the sort of silliness.
You were the voice for the children, giving many of them the will to live when all hope was lost.
“With just a little love and a little caring, I have seen kids totally turn around. Where you can’t find any cancer at all anymore in their body. I’ve done it a lot of times. I’m not trying to say I’m Jesus Christ. We should just give a little more attention to the power of love and caring and faith and prayer.”
“In their innocence, very young children know themselves to be light and love. If we will allow them, they can teach us to see ourselves the same way. ”
“God gave me a mission, I feel, to do something for them and they have given me a support and the believe and the love to hold on, hold on. When I look in the mirror, I feel healed all over again. It´s like being baptized. It´s like God saying, “Michael, everything will be ok,” when I look in the eyes of a child.”
“I tell the kids “I’ll see you next year” and sometimes the thought that I’ll be back next year makes them hang on. That’s happened several times. People told me this girl was about to die, but I kept running into her three years in a row – and the fourth year she died. The doctors couldn’t do anything, and for me to come in and help give her the gift of life really makes me feel good.”
Sometimes there were tears in your eyes, but for your fans, there was always a big, beautiful smile. You never let us forget how much you loved and appreciated us. You allowed us into you life. You invited fans into your home. You always took the time sign autographs, take pictures and embraced us with hugs. You never ceased to tell us how much you loved us and when you said it, we felt it.
“I appreciate all my fans, on all occasions, everyday of my life. Its your presence and your loyalty that has given me great strength.”
“The fans don’t know how much I love them so. It really can get to a hurting feeling inside due to how strong I love them all.”
“Over the years we became a family, all of us. You are my family… My children are your children and all the children of the world are our children and our responsibility. It was you who put your heart on the line. It was you who stepped forward to defend someone you love. It was you, on a worldwide basis who supported me as my army, my soldiers of love. You were always there. You are always loyal and I love you forever.”
Even in your anger at injustice, you used it in a constructive way to enlighten us. You opened our eyes to see that the misdeeds of history will keep repeating itself if we don’t stand up. You taught us not to judge, but also not to hide in blissful ignorance. I think more than anything that Michael would want his followers to continue the work that he was so passionate about.
“Human knowledge consists not only of libraries of parchment and ink – it is also comprised of the volumes of knowledge that are written on the human heart, chiseled on the human soul, and engraved on the human psyche.”
“We all have to give, and we all have to do what we can to help end the needless suffering in the world.”
“I get a taste of poverty, too. When I go to a country – like in the Phillippines and in Trinidad and in Africa – I really get out and go to the poor sections and talk to the people. I sit in their little huts, their cardboard houses, and I make myself at home. I think it’s important to know how different people feel, especially in my field of endeavor.”
I pray that one day this blind world will finally see your heart and appreciate all that you have done for mankind. Your legacy will never be forgotten.
As you once said, “Music has been my outlet, my gift to all of the lovers in this world. Through it — my music, I know I will live forever.”
