Apollo Theater Tributes To Michael Jackson For June And October

The world famous Apollo Theater will be honoring one of his own: the greatest entertainer/musician of our times, Michael Jackson! The venue will host two tribute event for the King of Pop in June and October.

From Off the Wall to Invincible, Michael Jackson’s recordings on Epic Records chronicle the artist’s evolution to become one of the most influential musicians of the 20th century. Author and Duke University Professor of Black Popular Culture, Mark Anthony Neal, will take us behind the music for a look at Jackson’s resounding impact on music, culture and entertainment and his place in a longstanding tradition of Black performance.

Grammy Award-winning jazz musician and Apollo Jazz Artist-in-Residence Irvin Mayfield and the New Orleans Jazz Orchestra (NOJO) return to the Theater, in Mayfield’s third presentation, for a special tribute to Apollo legend and global icon and the “King of Pop,” Michael Jackson. This tribute show re-imagines Jackson’s iconic hits through jazz. The 90-minute program will feature a performance by world renowned tap dancer and protégé of Wynton Marsalis, Jared Grimes.
