2014 — Los Angeles, CA — On May 13, Epic Records, in conjunction with the Estate of Michael Jackson, will release XSCAPE, an album of new music by  Michael Jackson.

What’s in a N-A-M-E – “That is the question!” Within the 25 songs on this random playlist comprised of songs featuring name in their title, the simple, everyday word takes on numerous meanings and interpretations. Maybe it’s the disappointment of not knowing a person’s name, the arrogance of ensuring everybody knows THE NAME (aka cockiness), or more thoughtful ideas such as escapism.  Regardless, after diving in to this list, you’ll know every single one of these songs and artists’ names!  

Michael Jackson, “A Place With No Name” (Xscape, 2014)

This song is all about escapism, an extremely popular theme within pop music. If a place has no name that means no one knows where it is and if Jackson could go there, well, nobody would bother him.  Escapism to the nth degree!

America, “A Horse With No Name” (America, 1971)

Can’t have “A Place With No Name” without “A Horse With No Name,” right? Before Michael Jackson’s version reworked as “A Place With No Name,” America nailed theescapism thing perfectly.  “I’ve been through the desert on a horse with no name / it felt good to be out of the rain / in the desert you can’t remember your name / cause there ain’t no one for to give you no pain.”
