Her ability to still render those power house vocals has come under a ton of scrutiny in recent years, but Mariah Carey proved she’s still got it as she made her residency debut in Las Vegas last night.
The pop diva pulled out all the stops during the opening night of Mariah #1 to Infinity which takes place at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace.
In true Mariah style, the entire evening was off the glamour scale. There was big hair, glitzy wardrobe changes, and some uber sassy props, as she jumped in her pink vintage Thunderbird for Dreamlover and danced alongside a yellow jet ski while clad in a black leotard from the Honey music video.
The singer belted out 18 of her chart-topping singles, from her first No. 1 Vision of Love to 2008’s Touch My Body, with the latter seeing the star invite a fan to climb onto a giant bed and blindfolded him while waving a feather in his direction.
The singer eventually took things down a bit and performed her cover of The Jackson 5’s I’ll Be There with Trey Lorenz while footage of a young Michael Jackson played on the screen behind her.
“I have always been one of Michael Jackson’s biggest fans, and later I was able to call him my friend,” she told the audience.
The 45-year-old wrapped up the show with her newest single Infinity from her upcoming album, #1 to Infinity, which is due out May 18.
Mariah will perform three nights a week in May and July for a total of 18 shows.
