Former MJ Choreographer Fatima Robinson Joins NBC’s TV Production Of The Wiz

The Emerald City just gained two new residents! has learned that choreographer Fatima Robinson has joined NBC’s live television production of the hit Broadway musical THE WIZ, with Stephen Oremus as music director. As previously reported, the musical will air on Thursday, December 3, 2015.

Entering into a unique partnership with NBC on “The Wiz” – to be executive produced by Craig Zadan and Neil Meron- is Cirque du Soleil, whose new stage theatrical division will co-produce the live TV event and then present it as a major Broadway revival for the 2016-17 season.
Tony Award-winning director Kenny Leon will stage both the television production and Broadway revival of “The Wiz” in collaboration with Tony winner and Broadway icon Harvey Fierstein, who will contribute new material to the original Broadway book by William F. Brown.

Universal Television will produce. Casting for both the NBC telecast and Cirque du Soleil’s  Broadway production will be announced at a later date.

Music video director and choreographer Fatima Robinson has worked with artists such as Michael Jackson, Aaliyah,Mary J. Blige, Cee-Lo Green, Jennifer Hudson, Usher, Prince, Rihanna, The Black Eyed Peas (including their 2011 Super Bowl Halftime show) and more. She choreographed HBO’s Inauguration event for President Obama, commercials for Nike and Heineken, and the 2007 and 2009 Oscars — she was the second African American woman in history to do so. Her work has appeared on such shows as DANCING WITH THE STARS, SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE and AMERICAN IDOL, as well as the films SPARKLE, SAVE THE LAST DANCE and DREAMGIRLS. Robinson has received multiple nominations for American Choreography Awards, Choreography Media Honors and aLucille Lortel Award nomination for Outstanding Choreographer- Off-Broadway, for her theatrical debut, RADIANT BABY, a musical based on the life of artist Keith Haring, produced and directed by George C. Wolfe at the New York Public Theater.
